From increasing adoption of cloud technologies, IoT, 5G connectivity, to ongoing disaggregation of network functions, all roads are now leading to the next networking revolution. However, in this journey, the winning strategy is not about adding newer capabilities in networking processes but also playing them to their strength. Today, data centre convergence, along with new service deployments like Wi-Fi 6 and SD-WAN require businesses to combine many different technologies—including physical and virtual devices—into a single network infrastructure. To optimise the benefits of such networks, it is imperative to ensure that they are capable of handling massive amounts of data flow for optimum use of technologies like AI, VR, and IoT. Amidst this changing landscape, businesses are looking at 400G Ethernet (GE) and terabit optics to manage a large amount of data. As a result, network equipment manufacturers are under increasing pressure to provide switching, routing, security, Wi-Fi, and IoT products that meet the expectations of a complex network.

Offering the widest array of data centre test solutions across all network layers, from physical Layer 1 test to full network test of Layers 2–7, Keysight Technologies [NYSE: KEYS] helps companies to accelerate their data centre infrastructure innovations. Keysight addresses the customer workflow from design to characterization and validation, as well as manufacturing. “Our goal is to enablecustomers to uncover issues early, optimize performance, and quickly introduce new products within their cost envelope without compromising quality,” says Joachim Peerlings, VP and general manager of network and data centre solutions at Keysight Technologies.

Keysight’s new test solution fills a gap of high-speed Ethernet testing by combining best-in-class technologies, such as BERT and FEC

Recently, Keysight announced its new network test solution. The company has combined the functionality of its A400GE-QDD 400GE Layer 1 multiport test system, with that of the M8040A high-performance bit error rate test (BERT) system. Individually, A400GE-QDD offers quick identification of issues related to bit error rate (BER) and forward error correction (FEC) problems of silicon communication devices used in 400GE systems. On the other hand, the M8040A BERT facilitates accurate error analyses and provides repeatable and reliable results. The analysis helps to optimise the performance margins on the physical layer for modern high-speed digital interface standards, PCI Express 5, DDR5, and Thunderbolt 3. By combining these two test systems, Keysight has been able to offer a unique solution—N4891A 400GBASE FEC-aware compliance test solution, which finds performance and interoperability issues early in the design and validation process of data centre-related devices. With its N4891A 400GBASE, Keysight is helping the industry transition from 400GE readiness to massive 400GE deployments. Peerlings highlights, “Keysight’s new test solution fills a gap of high-speed Ethernet testing by combining best-in-class technologies, such as BERT and FEC.”

Having established itself as the leader in data centre infrastructure design and test solutions, the main goal of Keysight now is to stay abreast of all the ongoing evolution of the networking space. According to Peerlings, one crucial aspect of that would be focusing on 25.6 and 51.2 terabits switches needed in hyperscale data centre networks, a step up from traditional 6.4 to 12.8 terabits switches. “We are excited to master the challenges associated with the constantly evolving network and data centre industry to support the insatiable demand for more and faster data,” concludes Peerlings.

Keysight to Provide Payload Testing Solution for First SWISSto12 HummingSat Mission

• Solution will validate Ku band bent-pipe transceiver payload that will deliver broadcast services for media companies and broadband connectivity for telecom providers

• Payload test platform helps ensure successful payload mission before satellite leaves launch pad

SANTA ROSA, Calif: Keysight Technologies, Inc. (NYSE: KEYS) announces that SWISSto12, one of Europe’s fastest growing satellite and radio frequency (RF) payload manufacturers, has selected the Keysight Payload Test System (PTS) to validate the RF payloads of its first HummingSat geostationary satellite, Intelsat 45. The HummingSat is a small, innovative telecommunications satellite developed in collaboration with the European Space Agency through a public-private-partnership and customers including Intelsat and Viasat.

Launching a telecommunications satellite has no room for error. Once in orbit, each of a satellite’s complex systems and payloads must function flawlessly. This means that satellite manufacturers must thoroughly test each part of a satellite during production and assembly to validate the spacecraft’s payload performance before it leaves the launch pad.

Scheduled for launch in 2026, Intelsat 45 will deliver broadcast services for media companies and broadband connectivity for telecom providers through a Ku-band transceiver. The Keysight PTS provides SWISSto12 with a complete integrated set of instrumentation, signal conditioning, and measurement calibration hardware and control software to extensively and robustly test the HummingSat RF payload.

The PTS connects to the HummingSat payload with a modular switch matrix platform that includes switchable CalPod Assembly Modules that provide calibration of the uplink and downlink paths without disconnection. This feature creates a software movable calibration plane that simplifies the production flow by eliminating interruptions that usually accompany periodic calibrations. In addition, the Keysight CodeOne™ software suite interfaces with the SWISSto12 system controllers to provide automated, accurate, and repeatable measurements for all payload test cycles.

The Keysight PTS uses high-quality test instruments and features a modular construction that is flexible and easy to upgrade. The SWISSto12 PTS configuration includes the E8257D PSG Analog Signal Generator, the M9837A PXIe Vector Network Analyzer, and the N9030B PXA Signal Analyzer.

Emile de Rijk, Chief Executive Officer and Founder, SWISSto12, said: “As part of our effort to optimize and industrialize our assembly and test efforts on HummingSat, we are pleased to announce the selection of recognized testing leader Keysight Technologies and their Payload Test System to validate that our small GEO payload meets all performance parameters essential for a successful mission.”

Greg Patschke, General Manager of Keysight’s Aerospace / Defense and Government Solutions Unit, said: “The complexity of satellites, with their nature as a ‘system of systems,’ makes testing and evaluation a critical aspect of ensuring mission success. Thanks to the Keysight Payload Testing System, SWISSto12 can ensure that the RF payload of the HummingSats they place into geostationary orbit will function as expected for the duration of their missions.”
