5G is not a single flavor of cellular technology, but three, which potentially allow advanced features such as ultra-reliable low latency and internet of things connectivity.
FREMONT, CA: Low-band, mid-band, and high-band 5G are the different varieties of 5G, which correspond to the operating frequencies of 5G. Each 5G type's unique qualities are not necessarily novel. They strive to tackle the challenges generated by previous generations by building on their talents. However, the many varieties of 5G are noteworthy because they enable sophisticated applications and approaches that make 5G networks unique for enterprise use.

Instead of perceiving 5G as a single flavor, the numerous 5G kinds can be compared to the flavors of Neapolitan ice cream, which consists of three distinct flavors in a single container. Low-band, mid-band, and high-band 5G are comparable to vanilla, chocolate, and strawberry.
Low-band 5G: The protection layer
In addition to 4G LTE and Gigabit-Class LTE, low-band 5G is included in the coverage layer. Low-band 5G, which consists of sub-2 GHz frequencies, has the lowest performance capabilities compared to other 5G spectrum bands. According to Opensignal's most recent benchmark analysis, the average 4G download speed in 15 key mobile countries is 37 Mbps. As a proxy for low-band 5G, the average 5G download speed in the United States was reported to be 55 Mbps. The Cradlepoint 5G Strategy team forecasts that peak speeds in the coverage layer could reach 350 Mbps, with maximum upload speeds of 60 Mbps and latency in the 30 ms range as 4G and low-band 5G continue to expand.
However, the coverage layer, which includes low-band 5G, has the greatest propagation, meaning that its signal may pass over obstacles and travel over great distances. Due to the historical paucity of the mid-band 5G spectrum, low-band 5G has the most widespread coverage in the United States.
Mid-band 5G: The capability layer
The 5G mid-band spectrum consists of frequencies between 2 and 7 GHz. In addition to medium propagation, mid-band 5G is anticipated to offer download rates of up to 1.5 Gbps and upload speeds of up to 350 Mbps, with latency ranging from 8 to 12 milliseconds with a 5G standalone core. Today's mid-band speeds are in the range of 100 Mbps and are accelerating daily. This style of 5G would be ideal if propagation and performance were bowls of porridge in a woods cabin.
High-band 5G: The layer of high capacity
High-band 5G is composed of millimeter spectrum (mmWave) cellular frequencies, including frequencies at or above 24 GHz. High-band 5G is the most efficient layer of the 5G spectrum, with download rates of up to 3 Gbps and upload speeds of up to 1.5 Gbps with latency in the single-digit millisecond range.
Although high-band 5G can carry more data than low- and mid-band 5G, its propagation is inferior to those of the other 5G spectrum bands. High-band 5G transmission is restricted chiefly to line-of-sight and is easily disrupted by weather, structural interference, and distance.
