“The SC-RF2-5Gn78 provides a 5G small cell development platform that can significantly cut time-to-market, reduce risk, and form the basis of a final product design,” said Edward Young, Senior Vice President and Managing Director at CommAgility, while speaking of its newly introduced 5G Small Cell standalone gNodeB reference platform. Wireless Telecom Group, a designer and manufacturer of advanced RF and microwave components, systems, modules, and instruments, built the platform under its CommAgility brand. The SC-RF2-5Gn78 combines NXP’s Layerscape and Layerscape Access SoCs with the company’s industry-leading SmallCellPHY-5G and SmallCellSTACK-5G software, as well as baseband and RF hardware. To decrease risk and effort, this solution has been pre-integrated and tested.
“The capabilities, shown in previous end-to-end connectivity demonstrations using our 5G Reference gNodeB, SmallCellPHY-5G and SmallCellSTACK-5G software have enabled our current 5G customers to accelerate their development and deployment of 5G solutions,” added Young. CommAgility software is now used in several 5G technology development projects, including 5G mmWave repeaters, 5G base stations and small cells, 5G research programs for the US Department of Defense, and private network deployment. A 5G gNodeB base station is included in the new platform, which can be utilized as a complete small cell solution.
Two high-quality, flexible 40MHz bandwidth RF channels are included in the SC-RF2-5Gn78, allowing for a 2x2 MIMO downlink operation. The platform combines 16 Arm Cortex-A72 cores with NXP VSPA DSP cores, security, and wireless accelerators and is based on NXP’s Layerscape and Layerscape Access processors. Future improvements will offer higher bandwidths and channel counts, resulting in increased throughput. CommAgility can provide class-leading services and outstanding support to companies building and deploying 5G solutions leveraging the NXP platform as a collaboration partner for its Layerscape Access processors. CommAgility’s 5G software can also be tailored to the individual demands of each project, making development easier, reducing time to market, and lowering risk.
