Network Guards (NGFWs) are crucial in protecting against internet-based attacks, gathering threat information from various sources. Vendors are adding advanced network traffic analysis, such as signature-based intrusion detection and application-specific packet inspection, to their NGFWs. Advancements in NGFWs enable them to detect and prevent sophisticated attacks, while the integration of machine learning and artificial intelligence enhances their real-time threat identification and response capabilities.
Enterprise Wan Edges
Enterprises are transitioning from traditional hub-and-spoke models to a new Enterprise WAN edge, enabling branches to access cloud services where cable/DSL isn't available. This shift is driven by branch distribution expansion and IoT devices, allowing direct traffic routing to trusted cloud applications. These platforms allow IT teams to define and enforce policy controls across workloads, users, and locations, making them more suitable for complex, hybrid environments. The pandemic in 2020 made work-from-anywhere a permanent fixture of the modern enterprise, and vendors and IT teams are still addressing the full scope of this shift.
