Grosse Pointe School System selects Ekinops360 optical transport system for the district's new wavelength division multiplexing (WDM) network.
FREMONT, CA: Ekinops, a leading provider of advanced optical transport systems and access network solutions for service providers and enterprises, announces that the Grosse Pointe (Michigan) School System (GPSS) has selected Ekinops' Ekinops360 optical transport system for the district's new wavelength division multiplexing (WDM) network.

GPSS chooses the Ekinops360 following a competitive, open bid procedure in which numerous proposals are received from the global WDM system vendor community. GPSS assesses that Ekinops is the best candidate to supply the mix of products and services at an attractive price that "fits both the District's present and future needs."
GPSS recognizes a vital need to reduce its total communications expenditures while meeting the expanding needs of its community of 14 public schools with about 1,000 teachers and administrators and over 7,000 students. Its prior managed lighting services from a local service provider are prohibitively expensive to operate, required a long lead time for upgrades, and do not provide the requisite GPSS quality of service. GPSS chooses to create its WDM network after exploring numerous alternatives.
GPSS can give up to ten times the connection bandwidth to each school compared to the fastest commercially available service by utilizing the Ekinops360. Still, it is also able to leverage Ekinops' industry-leading professional support capabilities. This is GPSS's first experience dealing with WDM systems. It turns to Ekinops for experienced technical assistance in installing and commissioning the network and training and post-sales support to ensure the system continued to operate optimally.
“Grosse Pointe is yet another example of how Ekinops is able to serve customers outside of our traditional telco and service provider markets,” says Kevin Antill, Ekinops’ group vice president of sales for North America. “This opportunity demonstrates how Ekinops’ solutions deliver value beyond purely revenue-driven goals by allowing even the most cost-sensitive customers access to advanced technology and tools.”
