But most businesses continue to use slow and strained conventional networks due to data proliferation and the rise of cloud-based technologies. These traditional networks, such as conventional data centers, restrict the advantages of cloud-native applications.
SDN is the network corollary to cloud
A Software Defined Network (SDN) is the network counterpart to a cloud architecture. The network control plane can be separated from the forwarding plane in an SDN framework, allowing for policy-based, centralized network management. To put it another way, an SDN architecture enables a company to abstract away from physical hardware and manage the entire network with software help.

The benefits of an SDN-native architecture, like those of cloud-native, cannot be obtained by transferring software and attempting to interact with the cloud in some form. Companies must start with a network native architecture that has all the fundamentals ingrained in its DNA. But most businesses are already plagued by legacy networks and are unable to completely redesign their networks in a single day.
So, here are some of the recommended approach:
Start small but think big: Most businesses begin their network transformation journeys by implementing SD-WAN in small areas. This technique is good at first, but if companies want to become SDN native, they will need to prepare ahead to make everything software-defined in the shortest amount of time possible.
Leverage next-gen technologies: Companies will need to leverage various next-generation technologies to follow the concepts of SDN-native infrastructure. Edge computing, for example, is required for ubiquity, AI/ML for intelligence, NetOps tools for speed, and multi-tenancy management platforms.
Focus on business outcomes: Better business outcomes are the ultimate goal of an SDN-native infrastructure. This goal must not get lost during the technology changes. To deliver business benefits, SDN-native infrastructure will become an enabler of cloud-native application implementation within the organization.
