A cybersecurity report released by AT&T recognizes the significant security gaps that need immediate attention from the organizations due to the rise of 5G networking.
Out of a total of 72.5 percent of the ratings provided by the security personals on their concern for the impact of 5G on security as high or medium-high, only 22 percent believed that their ongoing policies are ready to embrace 5G, stated the report.
The Major Security Concerns
For helping the professionals identify the potential new threats, the report lists the major security concerns surrounding 5G.
These concerns being legitimate, the report found higher risks that prevail surrounding other technologies used in the deployment of 5G. The first being virtualization, inclusive of software-defined networking (SDN) and network functions virtualization (NFV). Although virtualization is essential for 5G, a mere 29 percent of respondents planned to implement security virtualization in the coming five years.
Steps to Ensure a Secure 5G Network
The report identified components to a concrete 5G network security plan to help businesses tackle these concerns. Virtualized and automated security allow enterprises to manage the environment. Additionally, machine learning can help to keep with a large amount of data generated and the threat that comes along with it. Lastly, security practitioners must consider sophisticated strategies like a zero-trust approach to identify and authorize the risks in a 5G network.
