NS1's DNS insights enable rapid network troubleshooting and optimization.
FREMONT, CA: “Modern networks need to provide flawless and secure connected interactions to billions of users and tens of billions of devices. To do this, it is essential that networking professionals have the ability to observe and dynamically adjust for constantly changing conditions,” says Shannon Weyrick, vice president of research, NS1. NS1, the market leader in authoritative DNS systems, has announced the launch of DNS Insights, the most comprehensive DNS observability solution in the industry. DNS Insights unlocks enhanced reliability, real-time analysis, and cost control for NS1 Managed DNS and Dedicated DNS customers by collecting DNS and network metrics at the edge, empowering networking professionals to troubleshoot and optimize infrastructure at scale.

“DNS Insights makes it easier for network teams to troubleshoot misconfigurations, detect DDoS attacks, and identify potential areas of optimization, adds Weyrick.
DNS Insights arrives at a pivotal moment for network visibility. According to a recent survey of network professionals conducted by EMA and NS1, 43.3% of respondents indicated that collecting DNS logs has become more important; however, more than 20 percent of respondents indicated that their observability solutions suffer from a lack of insights, poor scalability, and high costs. Moreover, as the number of devices and apps continues to rise, network experts are under increasing pressure to maintain and secure settings.
While most DNS providers offer customers unprocessed DNS log data or a surface-level analysis of DNS data, NS1's DNS Insights collects and analyzes over 50 DNS and network parameters by inspecting each DNS interaction with the NS1 platform. Because the solution is driven by technology from the open source Orb network observability project, it provides results regarding real-time conditions in the form of a curated data stream without the expense or time generally necessary to gather, store, and analyze vast amounts of data.
OpenTelemetry support is also provided to customers, enabling integrations with new and existing observability stacks. Users can isolate data from particular edge agents or examine high-level information on the most active domains, top error and response codes, and top query types, amongst other things. NS1 also provides Grafana users with a second dashboard template built exclusively to showcase metrics for detecting DDoS assaults.
