Six Structured Cabling Subsystems
Entrance Facilities
Telecom facilities arriving at a residence or building from the outside -- from a private network or local service carrier -- pass over an opening in the outside wall. This cabling joins an indoor where other devices like network connection points, power supplies, hardware connectors, patch panels, equipment racks, and security devices for grounding, shielding, also lightning protection are deployed.
Equipment Room
The equipment room is where entrance cabling joins the internal building wiring infrastructure. It houses patch panels connecting backbone, horizontal, and intermediate cabling. This room may also adapt network switches, servers, PBXs, and other devices. As per equipment vendor specifications, it should be environmentally controlled to maintain relative humidity and temperature.
Backbone Cabling
Also called riser cabling, generally installed in vertical channels, or risers, connects to each floor -- backbone cabling links EF, telecommunications, other ERs, and carrier spaces. Two subsystems defined for backbone cabling are:
1. Cabling Subsystem 2 is betwixt horizontal and intermediate cross-connect (IC).
2. Cabling among the main cross-connect (MC) and an IC is Cabling Subsystem 3
Telecommunications Room &Telecommunications Enclosure
Hardware in these places terminates backbone and horizontal cables. Additionally, it's where jumpers or patch cords are utilized on patch panels to cross-connect various cables. Finally, ICs or MCs may be placed here to give additional connection resources.
Horizontal Cabling
The task of horizontal cabling is to get telecom resources to users in their work areas.
Horizontal cabling involves the cable, patch panels, connectors, jumpers, and patch cords in the TR/TE. They may also have multiple-user telecommunications outlet assemblies and consolidation points to connect multiple devices or cables in a lone connector.
Work Area
The WA is the final target of a structured cable system where the area from a jack, or connector, in a wall outlet to a user device using a cable.
Structured cabling has mostly simplified installing voice and data communications equipment. Moreover, its continued use means new equipment, such as IoT systems, will be supported.
