The advantages of fiber optic transmission include larger bandwidth, longer distance, faster speed, and greater resistance.

Light sources must have stable amplitudes, frequencies, and phases for efficient transmission. The following are some of the main benefits of fiber transmission:
Broader bandwidth: Compared to copper cables of the same diameter, fiber optic cables provide significant bandwidth for signal transmission. When sending the same bandwidth of data, transmission media with a higher bandwidth-distance product (BDP) will have a longer transmission distance. The higher the BDP, the faster and further uncompressed video can be delivered while maintaining the same quality as the native signal.
Resistance is higher: Fiber optic cables do not contain any metallic components, unlike copper-based transmission methods. As a result, they are resistant to electromagnetic interference (EMI) and radio frequency interference (RFI).
Moreover, fiber optic cables are not affected by extreme changes in temperature and moisture levels, which can hinder copper cable transmission.
Distance is longer; speed is faster: In fiber optic cables, photons travel at two-thirds the speed of light, while electrons barely reach one percent. A speed advantage of this magnitude has a profound effect on potential distances. High bandwidth content can be transmitted over extremely long distances in fiber optic cables, while copper cables have an utmost distance of 100 meters. Multimode fiber can triple the distance for a 4K HDMI signal, and single-mode fiber can extend the same signal up to 10 kilometers, depending on the cable, the wavelength, and the rest of the network.
Security: Since fiber optic cables do not conduct electrical signals, data signals cannot be detected remotely, and surveillance would detect physical access. Due to this security, fiber is the preferred transmission method for industries such as government and banking. Chemical plants and oil refineries are also safe places to use fiber optic cables.
