Here are the limitations a business could face with 5g technology:
Proximity
While cell networks are regularly building new 5G towers and transmitters, proximity will continue to be an issue. One must be close to 5G infrastructure to receive the most incredible 5G connectivity. 5G coverage will be better in dense urban areas, although even that will be limited.
Spectrum and bandwidth
As service providers share more of their radio frequencies across 4G and 5G, spectrum and capacity are improving. While carriers continue to expose more of their allocated spectrum to high-speed 5G, millimeter-wave deployments will provide the valued performance and low latency of 5G, and they will be significantly more limited in distance, reflecting the proximity issue. Spectrum is an important factor to consider while selecting carriers and equipment. Much of the 5G infrastructure will be built on top of existing 3G and 4G networks, allowing for backward compatibility with older devices. Network slicing is one of the ways 5G will overcome the bandwidth limits of today's systems.
Security
Both carriers and enterprises are concerned about security. On the carrier side, the general architecture of 5G, particularly in the back-end provisioning and handling, allows for greater and more granular security capabilities. Furthermore, as with previous wireless technology transitions, security is mostly addressed on the most recent platforms first, so 5G is expected to give considerably stronger security. Because 5G has new security capabilities, it has a different security paradigm than 3G and 4G. The good news for businesses is that much of the deployment will be handled by carriers. Understanding these new security models will be crucial for firms implementing network services on top of 5G cellular networks to ensure they are building comprehensive, secure services.
