VoIP empowers individuals to use the existing internet; therefore, the service doesn’t require its own infrastructure. VoIP makes use of UTP cables or WiFi connection like the computer, laptop, or printer, which provides ample benefits to the companies.
How does it work?
Rather than utilizing electromagnetic wave movements for transferring voice sounds (PSTN), VoIP transports speech via packet-switched protocols. The movements of speech waves are replicated by these digital blocks. Therefore, VoIP converts speech into small digital packages with labels, and one can compare them to small envelopes. The ‘speech packages’ are provided with the destination and shipping address by the envelope. In this way, the packages can easily find their way towards the destination. It has two key benefits; much information can be transferred over the same infrastructure. In case one of the lines gets malfunctioned, the packages will be sent through an alternative route.
Therefore, voice signals are turned into digital signals with the help of VoIP telephony. Later, this digital data is transferred through the worldwide internet, via the Internet Protocol (TCP/IP). With this, a telephone call from the user’s VoIP telephone is sent via his/her router, over the internet to his/her internet provider. They transfer the data via the internet to the organization’s provider the user is calling. This provider turns it back to an analog signal and transmits it over the analog line to the person the user is in contact with.
Benefits of VoIP
VoIP offers unlimited benefits. Firstly, it eliminates the need of the companies to invest money in an interoffice telephone and its maintenance costs. Besides, it reduces the distribution costs as well, which empowers different offices of the enterprise to call each other free of charge. Therefore, VoIP is cost saving.
Moreover, through VoIP, employees can access the office directory through their smartphone, tablet, or laptop and make and receive calls similar to being in office. This provides workers with more flexibility. Besides, VoIP provides the users with a virtual number that allows them to have a local phone number no matter where they are.
Therefore, companies should adopt VoIP as soon as possible as it offers more flexibility and enhances savings.
