Having earned two decades of management experience in the telecom and networking industry, Holger Winkelmann was quick to tap into this ongoing transformation in the industry. In doing so, Winkelmann and his team at Travelping—a privately held German-based software supplier—started developing public WiFi networks and carrier-grade software and architectures to assist telecom carriers to boost production, mitigate risks, and deliver tangible results over their networks. Since then, the company, instead of resting on its laurels, has been pushing the envelope in enabling enterprise networks. Churning out scalable architectural solutions, products, and managed services for deploying and operating networks, the company has witnessed organic growth from virtualization and containerization to finally entering the mobile carrier market.

Travelping offers 5G-ready software, with 2G, 3G, and 4G functions implemented in the architecture, delivering full stack mobile network services for specialized use cases. As the number of connected devices and telemetry data continue to grow exponentially, Travelping efficiently addresses the M2M communication requirements such as a combination of software updates, remote diagnostics and maintenance, and local data affinity. Besides, the company also offers managed services for end-to-end white-labeled network solutions.

Travelping’s business model revolves around the term ‘Business to Telecom’ (B2T)—a detailed understanding of telecommunication standards, architectures, protocols, and functional entities. “Our open source support and service model is the central piece of our B2T offering while our business model effectively reduces CAPEX/ OPEX,” explains Winkelmann.
